PoetryMatters met for the first time on Friday, July 24, on the third floor of the Greenville Public Library. If you haven’t heard about PoetryMatters yet, we’re a small group who meets to read published poetry aloud and discuss it. No frills, no meticulous analysis, just people who love poetry sharing our favorite poems with each other.
In this first meeting we heard poems by Gregory Pardlo, Pádraig Ó Tuama, William Benton, Billy Collins, and Lianne Spidel. We sipped our coffee, snacked on cookies, and had a wonderful time discussing the ways these poems resonated with us, evoking images and emotions and provoking discussion.
The next meeting of PoetryMatters will be Friday, August 14, at 2:00 p.m. We will meet on the second floor balcony of Montage Cafe at 527 S. Broadway in downtown Greenville. Bring your favorite book (or two) of poetry to share with the group. The meeting will last about ninety minutes. We look forward to seeing you there.
