We’ve had two wonderful meetings of PoetryMatters so far, and now we’re looking forward to the third in September. In August our small group gathered in the balcony of Montage Cafe and shared some favorite verses from Pádraig Ó Tuama, Billy Collins, Lisel Mueller, ee cummings, Luis Alberto Urrea, and others. Our discussion was spirited and proved poetry still has the power to incite (read: we argued a bit, and it was good).
PoetryMatters will next meet on Friday, September 25, at 2:00 p.m. at The Bistro Off Broadway at 117 E. 5th Street in downtown Greenville. Attendees may choose to order lunch, enjoy a dessert or appetizer, or just sip a drink while we read aloud. Please come prepared to read at least one published poem (not your own) aloud for the group.
Poetry still matters, perhaps now more than ever. We try to prove it every month when we meet. We hope to see you there in September.
