PoetryMatters 11

In our April meeting of PoetryMatters we read poems that dealt with parents and aging, the malleability of memory, Spring, blossoming love, and the ways lives can be isolated from each other. We read poems by Julia Alvarez (“Making Up the Past” and “First Love Letter”), Jim Harrison (2 & 16 from After Ikkyu), Lianne Spidel (“Chrome”), Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (“A Psalm of Life”), James McCauley (“Tabletalk”), Myrna Stone (“Waiting for Daddy”), and Edna St. Vincent Millay (“Spring”).

PoetryMatters will next meet on Friday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at The Merchant House in downtown Greenville. Attendees are encouraged to order lunch, enjoy a dessert or appetizer, or just sip a drink while we read aloud in their upstairs lounge. Please come prepared to read at least one published poem (not your own) aloud for the group.

We’d love to read some poetry with you. Bring your favorites poems and help us prove Poetry Matters.
