and again to our wells

so go the hours:
another ewer spilled,
into and from,
earth absorbing
the splash of wants,
another and another,
nourishing secret roots,
lattice tendrils,
home for the yet smaller,
and again to our wells,
casting down,
drawing up,
and the slow slog back,
yet looking
at what there is,
branch embracing sky,
jagged flicker flight,
dry stems, dry leaves,
