Microwave is one of the appliances that we like to use everyday for convenience and efficiency. With that constant use, our microwave would have that weird smell due to the many foods it heats up every day, especially if we accidentally burned or heated up funky food.
Here are the ways that can help you get rid of the smell out of the microwave:
Getting the Smell Out Of Microwave
- Clean with Vinegar
Alright, this can be a shocker because vinegar can smell. Right? But the truth is, vinegar is an effective remedy in the kitchen to get rid of stain and bad smell. On top of that, vinegar helps your oven to be shinier and fresh looking.
All you need to do is to get a sponge and dip it on the vinegar and start scrubbing the inside of the microwave. The microwave should be cleaned beforehand with other crumbs and gunk. Leave the microwave to get soaked with vinegar for about 30 seconds. Then, wipe it with a clean cloth for a cleaner finish.
- Clean with Baking Soda
Another wonder cleaning ingredient that you can find straight from the kitchen is baking soda. Like vinegar, baking soda is an effective cleaning and sanitizing agent on any surface. Plus, it’s cheap, readily available and easy to use.
To use the baking soda for cleaning the microwave, just rub the baking soda inside the microwave. Leave it there for 30 seconds to do its magic by softening the gunk and absorbing the bad smell. Then, clean it with a damp sponge until the microwave is sparkling clean and smell-free.
- Clean with any citrus fruits
If you have any extra citrus fruits in your fridge like lemon, orange or lime, this can totally help eliminate the bad smell in the oven. The smell of citrus fruits is one of the many flavor variants of air fresheners because of its fresh smelling scent. No wonder that these can help to get off the bad smell in the microwave.
To do this, get your chosen citrus fruit and squeeze all its juices in a cup. It should be about a cup of citrus juice. Then place it in the microwave oven and microwave for about 5 minutes. You can also leave it inside overnight by having the microwave oven closed the whole time. Rest assured, the microwave will no longer have that bad smell the next day.
- Use a Commercial Microwave Oven Cleaner
You can purchase different variants and brands of microwave oven cleaner. It usually comes in a big spray bottle that you can use to clean your oven. It doesn’t cost you that much plus it effectively cleans the oven from bad smell, stains and grease.
Just spray the microwave cleaner inside, leave for about 5 minutes and start scrubbing it off with a damp cloth. Repeat the process if the smell is still there until it has completely eliminated.
These are the different ways on how to get rid of the smell from your microwave oven. It doesn’t matter which one you choose to use for cleaning since all of them are highly effective.
Things to remember
- Always clean your microwave after using so the germs and dirt won’t build up overtime leaving a nasty smell.
- Avoid heating up food and leaving it to burn. This can also leave bad smell in your microwave overtime. Clean it immediately when you accidentally burn the food.
- Always turn off the power of your microwave when cleaning for safety precautions.
