- Mix character traits. When protagonists are either extremely moral characters or extremely immoral characters, it might be hard for readers to relate to them.

No not often. They do win if it’s a trilogy. However I believe that the villain should win or at least defeat the hero.

A villain (also known as a “black hat” or “bad guy”; the feminine form is villainess) is a fictional character, whether based on a historical narrative or one of literary fiction.
Why would a villain want to destroy the world?
The villain plans to destroy not only the planet, not even only the universe but two universes that keep each other in balance. With the destruction of the universes he plans to create a new utopian universe with him as some sort of god/king.
